You must own a Nuvision checking account with a balance of at least $500 to be eligible. This money market account must also be opened at a Nuvision branch using new money.

We reviewed Nuvision's checking, savings, and money market accounts using our bank account methodology. For Nuvision CDs, we used our certificate of deposit methodology. Each account receives a rating between 0 and 5.

How Nuvision Federal Credit Union Compares

Nuvision Federal Credit Union vs. Orange County's Credit Union

Orange County's Credit Union is another CDFI with branches in Southern California. To become a member of Orange County's Credit Union, you or an immediate family member must live or work in an eligible Southern California county.

If you're eligible for membership at both credit unions, you'll want to consider which accounts you'd like to open to see if a particular institution stands out to you.

For the most part, Nuvision share certificates offer more competitive rates than ones at Orange County's Credit Union. But you'll need to have a Nuvision checking account with a minimum balance of $500 or more to qualify for these Nuvision accounts.

If you live in California, Orange County's Credit Union may be a better option for a basic checking account. It's easier to waive the $6 monthly service fee on Orange County's Credit Union Basic Checking than it is to waive monthly fees on Nuvision Federal Credit Union Simple Checking if you live in a state other than Washington or Alaska.

Nuvision Federal Credit Union vs. Chase Bank

Nuvision is the clear choice if you prioritize working with a local, mission-driven organization. But Chase Bank is a good option if you want a bank with a national presence; it has branches in all 48 lower states. (Keep in mind, though, that this means it doesn't have branches in Alaska like Nuvision does.)

Chase is also a good option for earning a bank account bonus. Depending on which checking account you open and whether you meet qualifications, you could qualify for up to $3,000 as a bonus.
